Through His Spokesmen, Jesus SPEAKS Miracles to You!

The previous pages (4–5) show the miraculous power of God’s Word. At the creation, “[God] spoke, and it was done,” instantly (Psalm 33:9). With His living Word, God “calls into being that which does not exist,” instantly! (Romans 4:17).
Based on Scripture, in these two pages GOOD NEWS explains how Jesus and the Father continue to speak Their living Word to you today, bringing instant miracles into your life.
During His public ministry, Jesus spoke His living Word. Miracles occurred—instantly! God’s living Word healed people—instantly! (Matthew 8:3). Jesus’ living Words stopped life-threatening winds and treacherous seas, instantly! (Matthew 8:26). Jesus spoke His living Word and the dead were raised—instantly! (John 11:43–44). In addition to the miracles pictured on the previous page, there are many more miracles that happened instantly when Jesus spoke His living Word.

Jesus’ miracle-producing Word is not just for the past. Jesus is saying to you, “The Words I have spoken to you are Spirit and are life” (John 6:63). Just as the Father and the Son spoke miracle-producing Words in the past, They continue to speak these living Words today—for you!

How can you know that Jesus desires to speak His miracle-producing living Word to you? On Resurrection Sunday, Jesus met with His disciples and said, “As the Father has sent Me, I also send you” (John 20:21). Jesus called and sent out His disciples. Why? So that He could continue to “speak” His miracle-producing living Word through them. The Father sent His Son to speak His living Word. Then Jesus, in turn, called His disciples—through whom He then spoke the living Word.
Here is the connection to you today. Before He returned to His Father, Jesus established His church (Matthew 16:18). In John 20:21 we read, “Jesus therefore said to them again, ‘Peace be with you; as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.’” Accordingly, today Jesus appoints His spokesmen—through whom He speaks His living and miracle-producing Word (Ephesians 4:11).

Of course, there are many today—including entire church bodies—that deny Jesus’ own teaching that He performs miracles by speaking His living Word through His pastors at Baptism, in Holy Communion, in preaching, and in Absolution. Don’t be tempted to doubt Jesus’ living and miracle-producing Words simply because you cannot see or feel His Word “at work in you.” Rather, rely on the teaching of the Holy Spirit as He says to you: Receive the living Word of God, “not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the Word of God, WHICH ALSO PERFORMS ITS WORK IN YOU who believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:13). Cling to Jesus’ Words: “Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed” (John 20:29).
For those of you whom Jesus has called—and through whom He now speaks—carry out His ministry with confidence in His promise: “He who listens to you listens to Me” (Luke 10:16).
Blessed Lord Jesus, thank You for describing Your living Word. You explain how You speak Your living Word through those You call and appoint. Speaking through them, You bring miracles into my life—miracles of repentance and forgiveness in Baptism, in Christ-centered preaching and teaching, and through Your living Word in Your Absolution and Holy Communion. In Your most holy and powerful Name I pray. Amen.…
